Sight Word Practice & a Little Giveaway

Teaching sight words is key to success for young kiddos. I think we all know that!  There are TONS of fun ways to practice sight words but sometimes it’s nice to have different applications for the skill all in one place.  So I created a little something that hits some different applications for sight words in a fairly quick and simple way.
Sight Word Practice
This pack includes two different tracing styles as shown below:

I will be creating similar packs for the other Dolch lists too!
Happy Monday!

  1. The packet looks great! Sight words are so important! In my class, we play word wall games, hangman, Sparkle, memory, bingo, and a million other games. I don't have a favorite. I love them all!

  5. These look amazing! One of our favorite ways to practice sight words is to play "Around the Room." My kids love it and they get really into it!

  6. We have popsicle sticks with different ways to practice the sight words (i.e. Batter Up, Pumping Iron, Tigger Bounce). My students LOVE that! We also review them during centers by using fly swatters to hit the sight words on the word wall. That always seems to be a hit with the kids! :)

  7. We created what we call the "It Page". It combines lots of our favorite sight words activities in one page. It has Trace It (rainbow writing), Make It (cut out letters and glue), Write It, Code It (color different sight words in a sentence), Find It (word search). We finish the week with Secret Sight Word (write words with white crayon then students water color the page to reveal the word). We love studying sight words!

    1. OMG!!! I love your ideas!!! Do you do this whole class, as student centers, or as independent work?

  8. My favorite way to review sight words is Say it, Spell it, Say it. This is also how I review my spelling words. I also love reading my word wall (in sections) forwards and backwards with hand motions. In written format I love rainbow writing and using the sight word in a sentence.

  9. My students love to move to the sight words. I have a ring full of different ways to spell them and they select which color and I pick one of the activities. For instance, they can use a Ghost voice, or a Monster Voice. They can Stomp it or Use an Ax and each time they say a letter they pretend to cut the tree then yell the sight word at the end.

  10. Oh I so hope I win! One of the things my kids do have their words written on index cards and they are put on a ring for them to use/practice when they are needed or have extra time! Would love to win this set!

  11. My son does really well with sight words, but seems to need more practice and confidence. So we made a "Word Wall" [poster(s) covered in words] of all of the sight words he knows. This way it's in plain sight and not only can he see and review them often, he can feel very accomplished and have confidence the next time he reads on his own. nikkers2000{at}yahoo{dot}com

  12. Love Love Love your book!!
You do such great work! Thanks for sharing :)
I like to let the kids write the words on the smart.board!
On Fridays, we like to write them in shaving cream as we clean the desks.messy but fun.
We make them with wikki sticks (bendaroos)
I also play "Guess the sight word" with white boards, the kids write the words, then hold them up to a friend, and the friend has to guess the word.
In our "workstations"/center time they make the sight words out of playdough & magnet letters.

We practice alot!! Not too much with paper and pencil though, so I probably should do more of that. :)

  16. I put the words on visers (in plastic protectors so I can switch them out) and the students wear them around school. Everyone asks them their word and they like to read each the other words. They have a ball with this!

  21. This is great for sight words! I am always looking for ideas to get them into their heads.
We like to write the sight words with our fingers- in the air, on a friend's arm or back, on the carpet, in sand, in shaving cream, etc.
