The flashcards look like this:
Basically, you print, cut in half and laminate the flashcards. Then, you fold on the dotted line. When you first introduce it you show the kiddos the side with the red dots (with the blue dots folded behind where they can't see them). I suggest practicing identifying these sets until they can quickly tell you how many red dots they see without counting, but you can count them together at the beginning. After they tell you how many red dots, you unfold the card to show the blue dots. You count on from there. Here's an example of what the dialogue might sound like using the flash card above:
-{Teacher shows the red dots with the blue folded behind}
-Class: Nine!!!
-Teacher: Okay, I'm going to unfold and show you the other side. Let's count on together. How many red dots did you see?
-Class: Nine.
-Teacher: {Unfolds the card to show the blue side}. {Points to red dots} Nine....{Points to blue dots} Ten. How many dots are in all?
-Class: Ten
Eventually, your kiddos will be able to count on in their heads and not need to count on together as a class. You can also easily relate it to addition since it is two different colors.
The pack includes 36 flash cards in all. There are 4 different sets. All have red dots 1-9 but the difference between each set is how many you count on by, or the number of blue dots. There are sets with 1, 2, 3 and 4 blue dots.
You can get this set HERE for $2.00.
